TV's "Starsky" to fight drug charge in Ky.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) ? The actor who played David Starsky in the 1970s police drama "Starsky & Hutch" is fighting a drug charge in Kentucky for what he says is medical marijuana from California.

The Daily News (http://bit.ly/NGCyPG ) in Bowling Green reports an attorney entered a not guilty plea on Thursday on behalf of 69-year-old Paul Michael Glaser of Venice, Calif.

Bowling Green police charged Glaser with possession of marijuana and a pipe on May 10, hours after he read an excerpt of his young adult novel, "Chrystallia and the Source of Light," to students at a middle school.

According to a police citation, Glaser said he had medical marijuana prescribed to him in California.

He was arrested after an anonymous call to police that a man was smoking marijuana in a hotel.

Frank N. Darras, Americas Top Insurance Lawyer, Suggests Asking ...

Ontario, CA (PRWEB) August 28, 2012

With Labor Day quickly approaching and summer coming to a close, many Americans are taking final vacations before the kids go back to school and those long winter nights set in. Between scheduling flights and booking hotel rooms, many people forget to think about whether or not they are covered should an accident occur while traveling.

Looking over your health insurance policy before taking off for vacation should be a priority. Often, people have no idea what or how much their policy covers during travel, particularly overseas. This is a not a question you want to be asking after an accident has occurred, says Frank N. Darras, Americas top insurance lawyer.

A common misconception is that travel health insurance must be purchased when traveling overseas. Yet, many Americans are already covered under their current health insurance plans if they should need treatment in a different country. The questions to ask are how much and what coverage is provided overseas. Its likely that coverage is the same whether in America or Spain. But its also possible that policies may provide limited coverage overseas or may not cover certain activities, such as adventure-related activities.

Protection doesnt always have to mean purchasing travel insurance. Sometimes its as simple as checking over your current policy and making adjustments accordingly. If your plan has a spending limit for overseas travel or doesnt cover your bungee jump experience, then a travel insurance plan can be purchased to supplement your regular insurance, says Darras.

If primary coverage is limited, travel health insurance can be purchased to provide secondary insurance and limit out of pocket expenses. It is often relatively cheap and provides great coverage, but there are things to consider before purchasing. For instance, most insurance companies are cautious about covering adventure-related activities through insurance. There are often extra charges for covering these activities that can increase the cost by 100-200%.

Travelers should also be careful not to confuse travel insurance with travel health insurance. The health insurance provided under regular travel insurance is often minimal, if offered at all. Travel insurance typically only reimburses for emergencies that occur during travel, such as death, sickness or trip cancellation due to the travel company. What the plan doesnt cover is actual medical expenses, especially if long-term care is needed before the individual is able to return home.

Its always a good idea to read the fine print before buying. You dont want to wind up paying for a plan that covers what you already have through your current health insurance plan. You also dont want to be in the hospital before realizing the insurance you thought you purchased only covers minor injuries. If you have any questions about the fine print, ask an insurance lawyer to read over it before purchasing, says Darras.

No charges for deaths of terrorism suspects: Justice Department

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An investigation launched in 2008 into the CIA's program of detaining and interrogating captured militants was closed on Thursday with no criminal charges, the Justice Department said.

The interrogators used techniques like "waterboarding," or simulated drowning, which President Barack Obama and human rights advocates say is torture.

In a statement announcing the closing of the last two cases in the lengthy investigation, Attorney General Eric Holder said it "was limited to a determination of whether prosecutable offenses were committed and was not intended to, and does not resolve, broader questions regarding the propriety of the examined conduct."

Current and former CIA officials welcomed the decision. They have maintained that the program, begun after the September 11 al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington, was conducted under guidelines issued by lawyers of the administration of former President George W. Bush.

CIA Director David Petraeus sent a message to agency employees announcing the closing of the case and thanking them for cooperating with the investigation.

Human rights activists criticized the Justice Department decision.

"Attorney General Holder's announcement is disappointing because it's well documented that in the aftermath of 9/11 torture and abuse was widespread and systematic. These cases deserved to be taken more seriously from the outset," said Melina Milazzo of the group Human Rights First.

The inquiry originally was designed to probe the destruction of videotapes of interrogations by CIA personnel. A former official familiar with the tapes' contents said they depicted two suspects - Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri - being subjected to waterboarding.

EXPANDED INVESTIGATION

Three years ago, Holder expanded the probe to include the detention and interrogation of 101 militants alleged to have been held in custody by U.S. authorities in the years after the attacks.

The videotapes portion of the investigation, conducted by John Durham, a Connecticut-based federal prosecutor, was closed in 2010 with no charges brought.

In June of last year, the Justice Department announced that only two of the 101 detention and interrogation cases that Holder asked Durham to review would be expanded into full-scale criminal investigations.

These investigations, government sources said, related to the deaths in CIA custody of one prisoner in Afghanistan and another in Iraq.

The Afghan detainee, Gul Rahman, died in 2002 while being held at a secret CIA facility known as the "Salt Pit."

The Iraqi detainee, Manadel al-Jamadi, died in 2003 while in CIA custody at Iraq's notorious Abu Ghraib prison. He allegedly had been beaten by U.S. Navy SEALs.

People familiar with the investigation said that because the deaths occurred so long ago, there would have been legal and evidentiary problems pursuing any prosecutions.

A U.S. official said the CIA or Pentagon could still pursue disciplinary proceedings against personnel who may have been involved in alleged abuses.

In November last year, Obama, commenting on a Republican presidential candidates' debate in which Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and businessman Herman Cain backed the use of waterboarding, said: "They're wrong. Waterboarding is torture."

Google+ now has birthday reminders, too

21 hrs.

Many find Facebook's birthday reminders silly. Either they're overlooked entirely or lead to a post attack that clutters up someone's Wall (or Timeline). The folks behind Google+, on the other hand,?might've just?figured out how to make birthday reminders better (or?less annoying, at least).

Irene Chung, one of Google's software engineers, had the honor of introducing the social network's new birthday reminder?feature in a Google+ post.

"You?ll see a reminder on Google.com when someone in your [Google+] circles has a birthday," she explains.?This reminder ??an example of which you can see above ??is tough to miss since it lives in the same corner as regular Google+ notifications. It will only be visible to people with whom you've chosen to share your birthday, of course. (You can adjust this setting at https://plus.google.com/up/birthday, writes Chung.)

Unlike Facebook, Google+ doesn't offer a way for people to post something?onto your?page. This means that there won't be any silly messages from people you haven't spoken to since they wished you a happy birthday last year appearing among your own posts. Instead you might see a a couple of?emails or some Google+ posts in which you're tagged.

Now if only you could convince all of your friends to actually use Google+ so that you can properly take advantage of this new feature, you'd be all set.

Want more tech news?or interesting?links? You'll get plenty of both if you keep up with Rosa Golijan, the writer of this post, by following her on?Twitter, subscribing to her?Facebook?posts,?or circling her?on?Google+.

However if you have a large family or plan on having many guests visit a larger home may be necessary. The toaster, coffee maker and similar appliances can still use energy just by being plugged in. Lamps and other household devices do the same thing, so unplug and save money. If you use your Mammoth Lakes property as a vacation home for your family you will want to make sure that everything is unplugged when you leave town.

3. Use energy efficient lighting
It may seem very small, but when a number of factors add up, your yearly savings add up too. Installing efficient lighting such as florescent or LED light bulbs throughout your home can save you considerable cash. Lighting accounts for over 5% of an average energy bill each year. Cutting down on lighting costs can save you hundreds of dollars. Again remember to unplug lamps and other appliances when not in use.

4. Get an Energy Audit or contact an Energy Conservation Consultant
The power company will often provide this service, if not there are Energy Conservation Consultants that are able to help you find extra savings. They will perform tests on your home and appliances to identify new ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home. Although it may cost you more up front there are other ways to improve the efficiency of your home such as upgrading your heating, ventilation, & air conditioning system. Another set of upgrades that could help you improve energy efficiency are those that would improve your thermal envelope such as insulation, windows, doors, seals, weather stripping, siding, etc.

5. Capitalize on Tax Credits & Rebates

A Balanced Retirement Plan Includes a House |

Your home is filled with memories. It?s also filled with equity, and that could provide a source of retirement income. You may not have realized that your home is a potential source of income but the equity that you have in your home should be a part of your retirement financial plan.

Many financial advisers look at how much you have saved in retirement accounts and allocate part of those accounts to the stock market and the rest to fixed income investments. Homes are often thought as a liability in the traditional retirement planning framework. The expense of the home is accounted for but the value of the home is rarely considered.

Why home values should be considered in retirement planning

This is unfortunate for most retirees because some research conducted by financial planners found that a home can be the key to increased income and a less volatile portfolio. The research found that retirees should secure a reverse mortgage early in their retirement and use the reverse mortgage just as they would use funds generated from stocks or bonds. We would be happy to share this independent research with you or your financial planner.

Financial benefits of the reverse mortgage are not created based on aggressive assumptions or creative accounting. A retirement plan that includes a reverse mortgage simply recognizes that your home is an asset, and in many cases the family home is the largest asset a family has.

In the past, homes have been illiquid, meaning it was difficult to access the cash value of this investment. You had to sell or refinance with a traditional mortgage and a traditional mortgage required you to have a regular monthly income and accept an additional monthly bill. Adding a payment to your retirement budget was rarely a way to relieve financial stress.

With a reverse mortgage, the value of your home is considered when determining how much retirement income your investments can generate.

The reverse mortgage adds liquidity to your financial situation by making your home into a liquid asset, easily accessible for cash. No monthly payments are required since the reverse mortgage is fully paid off when you leave your home.

Your home could be the most important part of your retirement plan and it is not necessarily a liability. A reverse mortgage could turn your home into a valuable source of retirement income and unlock financial security in addition to providing you with a comfortable place to enjoy your retirement.

Leo is an avid patroller of the mortgage, reverse mortgage, and retirement industry! Leo enjoys keeping up to date and reporting on important issues that are in the news. He also likes educating people on how both the traditional and reverse mortgage industry works

17 beheaded after 'music party' in Afghanistan

The shooting deaths of two American soldiers in Kabul by an Afghan colleague are under investigation, with Afghan officials are saying it was an accident. NBC's Atia Abawi reports.

By NBC News staff and wire reports

Updated at 11:25 a.m. ET: KANDAHAR, Afghanistan --?Afghan President Hamid Karzai accused the Taliban on Monday of beheading 17 villagers, including two women, in volatile Helmand province, in a gruesome attack recalling the dark days of the hardline group's rule before their 2001 ouster.

He ordered a full investigation into the "mass killing," which a local official said was punishment to revelers attending a party with music and mixed-sex dancing.

"This attack shows that there are irresponsible members among the Taliban," Karzai said in a statement.

In a separate incident, a rogue Afghan soldier killed two American troops in eastern Laghman, the NATO-led coalition said; 10 Afghan army soldiers were also killed in an attack on a checkpoint in Helmand, the Afghan government said.?

?The Taliban denied they had taken part in the beheadings, which Karzai's office said took place in Kajaki district in the southern province.?

Photos: A nation at a crossroads?

"The victims were killed for throwing a late night dancing and music party when the Taliban attacked," Nimatullah, governor for neighboring Musa Qala district, told Reuters.

NBC's Richard Engel discusses the troop "surge" in Afghanistan -- something touted as a success by the military but questioned by many Afghans and also some in the U.S. who worry the troops will leave in 2014 with Afghanistan as a failed state.

The beheaded bodies were found in a house near the Musa Qala district, about 46 miles north of the provincial capital Lashkar Gah, said Nimatullah, who only goes by one name.

The attack involving gunfire happened Sunday in a Taliban-controlled area of?the province, the Interior Ministry told The Associated Press.

In ultra-conservative Afghanistan, men and women do not usually mingle unless they are related, and parties involving both genders together are rare and highly secretive affairs.

For the Taliban, flirting, open displays of affection and the mixing of men and women are vehemently condemned.

According to witnesses of a major attack that killed 20 near Kabul in June, Taliban gunmen stormed a high-end hotel demanding to know where the "prostitutes and pimps" were.?

'No one really cares': US deaths in Afghanistan hit 2,000 in 'forgotten' war

During their five-year reign, which was toppled by U.S.-backed Afghan forces in 2001, sparking the present NATO-led war, the Taliban banned women from voting, holding most jobs and leaving their home unaccompanied by their husband or a male relative.

Though those rights have been painstakingly regained, Afghanistan remains one of the worst places on earth to be a woman.?

American soldiers shot
The two?U.S. troops killed in east Afghanistan on Monday were?the latest in a series of insider killings that have strained?trust between the allies ahead of a 2014 pullout by foreign combat?troops.

Taliban commander, 12 others killed by US drone strike

The deaths in Laghman province brought to 12 the number of foreign?soldiers killed this month, prompting NATO to increase security?against insider attacks, including requiring soldiers to carry?loaded weapons at all times on base.

General Martin Dempsey was not on board at the time of the rocket attack, but the damage forced him to use another plane for Tuesday's flight to Iraq. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

The deaths also come a week after U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman?Martin Dempsey visited Kabul to talk about rogue shootings and?urge Afghan officials to take tougher preventative action.

"ISAF troops returned fire, killing the ANA (Afghan National Army)?soldier who committed the attack,'' the NATO-led International?Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

What's leading Afghan troops to turn on coalition forces?

There have been 33 insider attacks so far this year that have led?to 42 coalition deaths. That is a sharp increase from 2011, when,?during the whole year, 35 coalition troops were killed in such?attacks, 24 of whom were American.

Afghan soldiers killed
On Sunday,?insurgents killed 10 Afghan soldiers and wounded four in an attack on a checkpoint in volatile southern Helmand province, provincial officials said.

MSNBC's Thomas Roberts talks to NBC's Atia Abawi and NBC Military Analyst General Barry McCaffery about the new military offensive against insurgents in Afghanistan.

Ahmadi, the provincial government spokesman, said?insurgents attacked the checkpoint in Washir district Sunday evening.?

Ahmadi did not provide details of the attack. He added that that the five missing soldiers left with their assailants but it was unclear if they were kidnapped or went voluntarily.

NBC News' Atia Abawi, and Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.?

Solid Chances, Serious Challenges Greet Romney at his Convention

Mitt Romney heads into his nominating convention with a solid shot at the presidency but substantial challenges en route - including broad perceptions among a downturn-battered public that, if elected, he'd favor wealthy Americans over the middle class.

That view complicates Romney's job winning over the economically distressed white voters among whom his fortunes may depend. It's also expressed in his persistent weakness in personal popularity overall, as well as his shortfall against Barack Obama in views he understands the economic problems ordinary Americans are having.

See PDF with full results, charts and tables here.

Registered voters by a substantial 58-32 percent in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll think Romney would do more to favor the wealthy than the middle class - the opposite of views on Obama's priority. Obama has a slight 7-point edge in better understanding the public's economic straits, and another wide lead, 61-27 percent, as seeming more friendly and likeable.

As he seeks to address those weaknesses, Romney grasps his party's presidential nomination with pushback on at least two fronts: Better alignment with public preferences for more limited government, and steady dissatisfaction with Obama's economic performance. Fifty-six percent of registered voters disapprove of Obama's work on the economy; largely as a result, fewer than half, 47 percent, approve of his job performance overall.

These competing sentiments boil down to essentially a dead heat in vote preferences. Among registered voters in this national survey, 47 percent support Romney, while 46 percent favor Obama, a split well within the margin of sampling error.

It's the seventh time in 14 ABC/Post surveys this cycle that Romney's held a scant (even 1-point) numerical edge. That marks his continued opportunity, but also his difficulties taking full advantage of Obama's weaknesses, particularly on the still-struggling economy. Eighty-five percent of registered voters say it's in bad shape, and, in a related result, seven in 10 say the country's seriously off on the wrong track - two highly hazardous numbers for incumbents.

Indeed, Obama's support has slipped numerically in each of the last four ABC/Post polls - from 51 percent in April to 46 percent now - as economic sentiment has worsened amid persistent unemployment and a resumption in rising gasoline prices.

Romney, crucially, has a slight, seven-point lead among registered voters in trust to handle the economy, 50-43 percent. And he benefits from the fact that 58 percent say they're not confident the economy would improve under a second Obama term. But 52 percent aren't confident it would improve under Romney, either - suggesting that beyond criticizing Obama's economic performance, Romney could benefit by sharpening his argument that he'd do better.

Among other results, this survey, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, finds a weak reception for Paul Ryan as Romney's vice presidential running mate - 54 percent of registered voters approve of the choice, somewhat lower than the customary levels in past elections. Still, that rises to 85 percent of "very" conservative registered voters and as many of those who strongly favor the Tea Party political movement, good for Romney in the GOP base.

Overall, though, two-thirds of registered voters say Ryan's selection will make no difference in their vote, while the rest divide essentially evenly on whether it makes them more or less likely to back the GOP ticket. And there is a risk: Registered voters by a broad 62-33 percent oppose Ryan's proposal to restructure Medicare. To date that does not look to have impacted trust to handle the issue, about an even division between Obama and Romney. That's in fact a plus for Romney, given the traditional Democratic advantage on Medicare. The question is how it plays out in the campaign ahead.

It's been tough so far for either candidate to gain much resonance. Apart from two polls with slight advantages for Obama in February and April, he and Romney have been essentially tied in 12 other ABC/Post matchups since April 2011. And while they're basically even in trust to handle one issue on which Obama has opportunity, Medicare, they're also tied on another, assisting small business, on which Romney's sought to portray Obama as out of touch.

The two are essentially even in trust to handle several other contentious issues, as well, including health care policy and education. Romney prevails in trust to handle the federal deficit. But Obama holds a big advantage, 52-38 percent, in trust to handle "social issues such as abortion and gay marriage," and leads Romney by 16 points on "addressing women's issues." (Neither of those has changed since spring.)

By extension of views on women's rights, Romney's overall support from registered women voters, a persistent difficulty for him, is just 43 percent, compared with his 51 percent support among men. (Obama, by contrast, has 49 percent support from registered women voters, 42 percent from men.)

Atop all these issues, the weight of public expectations represents another hurdle for Romney to address. Despite the dead-heat horse race, and the economy's continued straits, 56 percent of registered voters say they expect Obama ultimately to win a second term.

GOVERNMENT and POLICY - As noted, stated preferences on the size of government favor Romney. Fifty-nine percent of registered voters say they prefer smaller government with fewer services over larger government with more services. Sixty-nine percent ascribe the same preference to Romney. But 73 percent think Obama, instead, prefers larger government.

That result presents Romney with an unquestioned opportunity to pin the "big government" tag on Obama. But there are limits to the approach, and responses available to the Democratic camp.

For one, even while they profess a preference for smaller government, registered voters by 51-37 percent also say they think the government would do better trying to create jobs by "spending money on projects like roads, bridges and technology development" rather than by cutting taxes - an argument more in tune with Obama's position than Romney's. It matters: While those who prefer cutting taxes favor Romney by a vast 69-24 percent, those who see government spending as a better jobs-maker favor Obama by 62-31 percent.

Views of fairness - an Obama theme - also represent a potential shoal for Romney. Registered voters by an 18-point margin, 54-36 percent, see "unfairness in the economic system that favors the wealthy" as a bigger problem than "over-regulation of the free market that interferes with growth and prosperity," again showing more alignment with the Democratic argument. And again the connection with vote preference is profound - 87-11 percent for Romney among those focused on over-regulation; 71-20 percent for Obama among those concerned with fairness.

Beyond these, the Obama campaign may be seeking to keep a focus on Romney's personal wealth - and by extension the sense he'd favor the wealthy over the middle class - by continuing to call for fuller release of his tax returns.

Registered voters divide exactly evenly on whether or not fuller tax disclosure by Romney is needed, but just two in 10 call the issue a major factor in their vote. (That rises sharply among Obama supporters, likely the reason his campaign keeps on it.) Seventy-two percent, by contrast, call Obama's handling of the economy a major factor.

Again, though, Obama can find a reply: By 52-34 percent, more continue to blame the economy's current condition not on Obama, but on his predecessor, George W. Bush.

GROUPS and MOVERS - At 47-46 percent, Romney-Obama, vote preferences among registered voters now show a difference compared with all adults, who divide 49-42 percent in Obama's favor, a result indicating the pressure on Obama's side to register and turn out its base. (Among likely voters, at 49-47 percent, Romney-Obama, the race is similar to its level among registered voters.)

There's room to move: More than half of Romney's and Obama's supporters alike are less than "very" enthusiastic about their candidate. Fifteen percent say there's a chance they may change their minds, plenty enough to shake up the contest. Moreover, majorities say they're anxious about how their preferred candidate would perform in office (53 percent in Obama's case, and more, 62 percent, in Romney's), and four in 10 say they're seeking more information about the candidates - two more subtle indicators of the potential for movement.

Preferences - on policies and between candidates alike - of course are associated with partisan and ideological affiliation. Obama leads by 84-14 percent among liberals, while Romney holds numerically his best advantage to date among conservatives, 77-16 percent (though it was very similar in March). There are easily more conservatives than liberals among registered voters; Obama makes it back among moderates.

Independents, who often have been swing voters in national elections, divide narrowly, 47-43 percent between Romney and Obama among registered voters - a bit softer for Romney than last month. Obama's helped by the fact that Democrats outnumber Republicans by 7 points among registered voters in this survey (as they did in the 2008 exit poll). At the same time, his 83 percent support among Democrats lags Romney's 91 percent among Republicans.

Among other groups, Romney holds a broad 55-37 percent advantage among whites overall, while Obama has 76 percent support from nonwhites. As noted, economically stressed whites may be of particular interest; among those with incomes under $50,000, Romney has 50 percent support in this group - indicating opportunity to improve, if he strikes the right message.

TONE and REACHOUT - Another potential factor is the campaign's tone, an issue on which there are criticisms on both sides: More than half of registered voters say each candidate has been mainly attacking his opponent rather than addressing the issues.

Slightly more say that about Romney than said it about John McCain at about this time in 2008. But vastly more say it about Obama now - 56 percent - than did in late August 2008, just 29 percent. The question here is whether that change in tone draws more voters to a more-combative candidate Obama - or sends them away.

A final issue, and a potentially critical one, is voter contact - and on this measure, Obama has the high ground. As of this point, relatively few of Romney's supporters, 18 percent, say they've been contacted by a representative of his campaign. Far more Obama supporters - 31 percent - say they've been contacted by Obama's campaign. The ground game is one key battle Obama won four years ago. For Romney, once his convention's over, it's another important box to check.

METHODOLOGY - This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by telephone Aug. 22-25, 2012, among a random national sample of 857 registered voters (out of 1,002 adults overall), including landline and cell-phone-only respondents. Results have a margin of sampling error of 4 points for the full sample and registered voters alike. The survey was produced for ABC News by Langer Research Associates of New York, N.Y., with sampling, data collection and tabulation by Abt-SRBI of New York, N.Y.

Synergy Effect: Raspberry Keytones

There has been tremendous hype in the media surrounding raspberry ketones. ?Raspberry ketones have been in 'fat burner' products for years and only recently have been isolated and promoted independently as a weight loss supplement. ?There is some real science behind it that shows it may produce results but as with any supplement, check with your doctor because there can be side effects.
? ? ?Raspberry ketones encourage the breakdown or metabolism of fat and that is where its 'fat burner' reputation lies. ?It has a thermogenic effect that encourages breakdown of fat cells as well as possibly?mimicking?norepinephrine (which is the fight-or-flight hormone). ?So taking too much could be dangerous for those with high blood pressure or heart issues. ?It is also said to mimick the hormone, Adiponectin, wich helps in the regulation of sugar and fat in the blood. They say people who are naturally thin have higher levels of this hormone. ?It is said that extra body weight inhibits or reduces the ability of this hormone to function so your body behaves like it's 'fat' by storing more fat instead of burning it. ?Where as if you have adequate amounts/synthesis of adiponectin, your body will burn or release fat as opposed to automatically storing it. For some, their results are the proof that it works. ?Many claim that it was a miracle for them and helped them shed long lasting unwanted pounds (in conjunction with diet and exercise). ?And for many, with the guidance of their doctor, it may be a viable addition to a weight loss plan. ?The draw back is that so far, studies have not been done on humans so it is impossible to know all or any long-term or short-term affects. ?As with any supplement (vitamin, herbal, or otherwise), you should check with your doctor first-especially if you have any preexisting conditions. ?The safest way to shed unwanted pounds is not the easiest but it produces results beyond the physical. ?Diet and exercise. ?Exercise has been shown to increase?serotonin?("feel-good" hormone), decrease cortisol (stress hormone), increase BMR (metabolism), increases confidence, produces better sleep, and the list goes on and on. ?And you can't forget what a vital part diet is. ?The list of benefits (beyond weight loss) from eating a healthy, whole, varied, unprocessed diet is immeasurable. ?I know it takes longer and it can be harder, but I prefer the amazing added benefits of losing weight the safest natural way as opposed to finding weight loss in a bottle. ?All the hard work, effort, determination, and fortitude make the goal achieved that much sweeter!

Liverpool, Manchester City draw

Associated Press Sports

updated 12:25 p.m. ET Aug. 26, 2012

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) -Manchester City twice came from behind to secure a hard-earned 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday.

Martin Skrtel gave Liverpool the lead with a powerful header from a Steven Gerrard corner in a first half in which Brendan Rodgers' team edged the defending champions.

Yaya Toure equalized for Roberto Mancini's side in the 63rd after Pepe Reina failed to claim a cross that Martin Kelly could not control, allowing Toure to finish from close range.

Luis Suarez restored Liverpool's lead with a perfectly executed low free kick into the corner of Joe Hart's goal.

Skrtel was at fault for City's second with an under-hit pass back toward Reina, which Carlos Tevez ran on to, rounding Liverpool's goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net.

5 Steps to Providing High Quality & Safe Infant/Toddler Care | The ...

As I prepared the Module 6 and Week 28 eCourse Lesson for the member of the Family Home Child Care Empowerment Club, I was inspired to share some of the tips with you!

The topic of week 28 eCourse Lesson was: How to provide a healthy & Safe environment for infant/toddlers. The tips were provided in the form of a health & safety checklist, because I believe that the best way to improve your childcare program is through self assessment.

Today I am going to share 5 steps to Providing High Quality & Safe Infant/Toddler Care:

1. Maintain Ratio. Be sure that there is no more than? four infant/toddlers to a care giver. It can be quite demanding for one caregiver to care for too many infant/toddlers. Moreover, infant/toddlers need lots of loving care and it is almost impossible for one caregiver to meet the needs of more than? four infant/toddlers at any given time. ** In some cases, it is recommended that the ratios are 1-t0-3.

2. Be Alert of the Health/Safety Needs of the Children. For example: It is important that you or your staff know who feels well and who does not. Are the children adequately supervised? Know where the adventurous toddlers are, at all times, etc. Being aware of the health & safety needs of the children is a vital part of providing quality infant/toddler care.

3. Smoke Free Home or Center. You can almost assume that caregivers will be considerate and not smoke around children, however, it is very important that parents know that you have a smoke free facility!

I suggest that you post a SMOKE FREE ZONE sign. Cigarette smoke is very toxic to a child. Moreover, if you have smokers on staff, it is also a good idea to require that they wash their hands after smoking. Furthermore, if? your staff member(s) smell like smoke after a break; require that they change their clothes, before handling the infants/toddlers.

Home Providers: Require that family members smoke outdoors during the hours of childcare.

4. Post the number to Poison Control. You may have already removed all medications and cleaning supplies out of the reach of the children. However, what if a parent fails to tell you that there is medication in a diaper bag and a toddler gets a hold of it?? That?s right?you will need to call Poison control right away!

So be sure to post your local poison control number near your phone. Here is the national number to poison control: 1-800-222-1222. ***Moreover, check diaper bags daily for medication, etc.

5. Small Toys Can Be a Choking Hazard!! If a small toy can fit through the opening of a toilet tissue tube, than it is a choking hazard for an infant/toddler. Be sure that toys that are 1? 1/2 inches in diameter are kept out of the reach of young children (preferably under the age of 3).

Infant/toddler learn about their world by putting things in their mouth and this is why you must be mindful of the toys that are within the reach of infant/toddlers.

In summary, I hope that you have found this blog post to be helpful to you. Most importantly, My hope is that you create a High Quality and Safe place for infant/toddlers.

The Customer Advantage In Review | Internet and Email Marketing ...

Now three years old, The Customer Advantage is nearing the final stages of it?s completion and today we look at how the program looks to combine earnings and savings to give members the ideal home based business opportunity for 2013.

Think Groupon with a serious earnings opportunity and you?re already half way there.

Now three years into development, the admin team know they have a game changing program on their hands if they get it right. As a free opportunity, too, it is the easiest type of home based business to build online.

There are two aspects to TCA..

* Saving you money at local businesses

* Building an online income

If you think Groupon or LivingSocial you?ll already have a fairly decent idea of how the savings aspect of TCA is going to work.

The key differences with the TCA deals are as follows:

* Every deal comes from a local business, not a corporation. The focus has always been on communities rather than affiliates.

* All deals will offer between 50% and 90% off for the member, as opposed to the 30% which most others go with.

The affiliate option of TCA is where things become rather more interesting, and was undoubtedly the main factor in Amazon?s $25 million bid which was rejected by the developers in 2010.

By sharing your TCA business with others looking to save money online for free, you unlock the ability to earn an astonishing 5% commission each time they take advantage of any of their deals. This lasts forever, too.

If you work on building your business and helping others discover free savings, or referring businesses to help them run deals in their local area, you can earn a substantial monthly income with the program itself.

Overall The Customer Advantage is a great idea which is taking it?s time coming to fruition but, if all goes to plan, it will be absolutely everywhere once it goes live.

A fresh start for everyone

???
Eleven months removed from a disastrous finish to their last season and with hopes dashed for this one, the Red Sox Friday hit the re-set button on their franchise, moving closer to finalizing a blockbuster nine-player deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers that rocked baseball and rolled their own roster over.
????
The deal, which was still in need of both teams going over the medical reports and some players to contractually approve, would send Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto to the Dodgers in exchange for first baseman James Loney, pitching prospects Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa, infielder Ivan DeJesus Jr. and first baseman/outfielder Jerry Sands.
????
According to a baseball source, the Dodgers would absorb the vast majority of salary obligations owed to the four Red Sox players, a figure estimated at $275 million.
????
It's believed that amount of money transfer is the largest amount ever in a trade between two teams.
????
Late Friday night, the deal was still pending the approval of Beckett -- who has 10-5 rights and can refuse any deal -- and Carl Crawford, whose limited no-trade clause includes the Dodgers.
????
A baseball source said neither was expected to hold up the deal.
????
The deal comes as the Red Sox find themselves with an angry fan base, upset with underperforming, overpaid veterans. The team has taken on the appearance of a soap opera, especially following word last week that a number of players met with ownership last month in an apparent attempt to get manager Bobby Valentine ousted.
????
"We had to do something," said a Red Sox source Friday night.

The deal, which could be completed Saturday, does a couple of things for the Red Sox, who are six games under .500 and effectively out of contention for the post-season and set to miss the playoffs for the third year running despite a payroll which ranked in the top three in the game.
????
1. It changes the clubhouse culture.
???
Beckett was the face of the team's "chicken-and-beer" scandal last fall when the team blew a 9 1/2 game lead in the final month, resulting in Terry Francona being fired and a handful of other off-season after-shocks.
????
Beckett was the leader of the team's pitching staff, but his poor conditioning and clubhouse behavior set a troubling example for the younger pitchers.
????
While teammate Jon Lester showed real contrition last winter in the aftermath of the scandal, Beckett seemed more focused last spring on finding the source -- or "snitch" as he termed it -- of the story.
????
He got himself into further trouble when it was reported that he had played golf on a Boston-area course days after being scratched from a scheduled start because of a sore lat muscle. Beckett then defiantly defended the round of golf, angering fans.
????
Gonzalez, too, seemed far less happy in his second season with the Red Sox, and just this week, complained about the "gossip" and "rumors" that seemed to envelop the team.
????
A southern Californian and Mexican-American, he'll return closer to his home and could act as a draw for the Dodgers, who are still repairing their image after former owner Frank McCourt damaged the team's brand during his ownership tenure.
????
2. It provides great salary relief and flexibility.
????
In unloading most of the money due Beckett ($31.5 million after this season), Gonzalez ($127 million after this year) Crawford ($102.5 million) and Punto ($1.5 million after this year), the Sox will give themselves the ability to spend the money in a more efficient way.
????
Presumably, that money will be invested in younger players -- all four of the players in the deal with the Dodgers are over 30 -- and will help the Sox reach the goal of getting under the CBT (competitive balance tax) threshold of $183 million in 2013. The latter will enable the Sox to avoid costly luxury tax payments and make them eligible for refunds from baseball's revenue sharing fund.
????
The Sox can also use some of the money saved to attempt to extend outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who is eligible for free agency after 2013 and perhaps also re-sign DH David Ortiz, who is a free agent again this off-season.
????
It's doubtful the Sox will invest heavily in this winter's free agent class, which doesn't offer much in the way of front-line starters (except Zack Greinke) or impact position players (other than Josh Hamilton).
????
The short-term impact of the players from the Dodgers will be minimal.
????
Loney will likely serve as the first baseman for the remainder of the season, but is eligible for free agency this fall and probably won't be re-signed.
????
Webster and De La Rosa are the two biggest parts of the deal. De La Rosa is a power reliever who recently returned from Tommy John surgery and could be a dominant set-up man.
????
Webster is thought of as perhaps the Dodgers' best starting pitching prospect and has been compared with Derek Lowe thanks to a powerful sinking fastball in the mid-90s.
????
DeJesus projects as versatile infielder, while Sands' stock has fallen in the last two years. The Dodgers' Minor League Player of the Year in 2010, he's struggled in brief time in the big leagues and will turn 25 next month.
????
One baseball source said the two teams began putting the trade together in the days leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, but time ran out.
????
More recently, the deal was resurrected and began to take shape when the Sox at first placed Gonzalez on trade waivers Wednesday and then placed Beckett there Friday.
????
Both were claimed by the Dodgers to both keep them from being claimed by others and provide the framework for the mega deal.

List Building Mistakes | Terry Bains - Internet Marketing Blog

In the last section we talked about some simple tools you can use to build your subscriber list. There are many possibilities and opportunities to expand your list if you are willing to put in the time and effort. Once you have a solid list, you are positioned to sell your product or service more efficiently on the Web or off the Web.

In this chapter well look at some more ways of building your subscriber lists. Many people decide to build their mailing list by buying a mailing lists or subscriber lists. There are many places you can rent or buy mailing lists. Generally however, these lists do not work as well as collecting leads on your own. Sometimes buying a list causes problems. For example, many subscribers on these lists are people that didnt want their personal information sold, so they may end up resenting you for contacting them, and even report you for Spam.

While you can use these lists and they might work, you have to consider whether the price is worth it as they are very expensive. If you are short on time and have some free capital to spare, you might start with a rented or bought list and then work on building your own subscriber list.

Building Your Own Mailing List

You cant rely on others to build your mailing list for you. If you want to succeed you must do everything possible to create your own success.

Building your own list is the best way to earn the trust and loyalty of subscribers and to ensure your personal success and satisfaction. While you are building your subscriber list using the tools we talked about in the first chapter, you can also use the information you gather to start building your own mailing list. Some new business owners are afraid to ask their customers for personal information to include on their list. But for many, a mailing list can make or break a business.

A mailing list is a must have if you want to create large-scale sales and realize significant profits on the Web. Want to know why a mailing list is important? Heres why. Typically the average customer will visit a website seven or more times before they buy something. As long as you give your customers a reason to revisit your site, they will. That is why you need a mailing list

You can mail a newsletter to your list to encourage your customers to visit your site and look at recent additions or updates. There are many statistics confirming that customers repeatedly buy from email advertisements, so dont think you dont need a mailing list. You do. And you need a good one at that.

How To Avoid Mistakes When Creating Your Subscriber List

Before we talk more about the steps you should take to build your subscriber list, lets make sure we are clear on what you should NOT do when building your subscriber list. Many newbies fall victim to scams or programs offering free traffic that will boost their sales. Unfortunately many of these programs are nothing more than scams and may end up costing you more money than they make.

They can even prevent you from restarting your business and achieving the success you deserve. So lets make sure you do not make these common mistakes.

Lets start by looking at some things you should avoid when trying to build your list.

List Building No Nos

There are certain things you should never do when trying to build your subscriber list. The #1 mistake list builders make is buying bulk emails. Here is a tip:

NEVER BUY AND SEND BULK EMAIL TO PEOPLE

You wont make any money sending bulk emails to people. Why? Because they are garbage. They are worthless. By now you must have done some research on list building or you wouldnt be reading this book. You may see ads that promise thousands of email addresses for less than $50. If you see ads like this, know you are working with a bulk mail company.

While having thousands of subscribers would be great, it isnt great if you are getting your names from a bulk mailing list. Bulk companies get their email addresses by using automatic tools, including robots on the Web.

If you buy the list, there is a very good chance you are buying a list of names of people that dont want to be advertised to for the product you are offering. You risk being labeled a spammer. If no one asked to subscribe to your mailing list and you send them an email, what are you doing? You are spamming them.

Spamming people is the number one way to fail at building your subscriber list. Bulk mailing ads are useless. Avoid them at all costs if you want to run a successful campaign.

Bulk mailing lists also are not targeted. Targeted lists are lists that have the names and contact information of people that would have an active interest in buying what it is you have to offer. If you buy a bulk list, you run the risk of trying to sell a female hormonal cream to a man interested in sports gear. Not a good combination.

Now lets look at another popular scam used on the web to pull new business owners in and trick them into spending their hard earned money on traffic and list building programs that dont work.

Guaranteed Traffic Scam

Many new business owners are tempted by offers of guaranteed traffic for a very low price. Now, these companies may send 100,000 or more visitors to your website, but you may not get a single subscriber or make a single sale.

Why? Traffic is generated by pop up windows appearing on other websites. Your website is loaded into a pop up window. So, someone may be surfing the net and your website pops up below the site he is searching. This results in sending out your website to thousands of untargeted customers. The key to success in list building is creating a list of TARGETED customers.

Targeted customers are customers that are most likely to be interested in buying your product. They have, in some way, offered their information and stated that they have an interest in a product. Lets say you sell beauty products. You want a targeted list of consumers, mostly women, interested in buying beauty products on the Web. If you get a list of untargeted customers, your business will go nowhere. Most untargeted customers wont buy anything, and they dont want to be hassled by traffic generating pop ups.

Syria refugee exodus swells as fighting heats up

The number of refugees fleeing civil war in Syria has surged to more than 200,000, the UN said on Friday, as fighter jets and tanks reportedly unleashed deadly new raids in hotspots across the country.

The new international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi held talks with UN leaders, pledging: "We will not spare any effort" but saying he was "scared" about the scale of the task confronting him.

Western powers are focused on tightening the screws on President Bashar al-Assad while the 17-month conflict grinds on with neither government forces nor rebels able to claim decisive battlefield gains.

Syrian deputy foreign minister Faisal Muqdad said Thursday that Damascus was ready to work with Brahimi and voiced hope he could pave the way for "national dialogue," after another minister said this week the regime was "ready to discuss" Assad's departure as part of any negotiated solution.

Syria's only regional ally Iran said it will submit a proposal for ending the conflict at a Non-Aligned Movement summit next week, saying it included "all parties" but giving no further details.

World powers are divided over how to end a conflict that is also heightening tensions in neighbouring nations, and demonstrators who took to the streets after weekly Muslim prayers protested at the lack of international action.

"The world disgusts us," chanted protesters in Daraa, birthplace of the revolt that began with peaceful protests against the regime in March 2011.

The West is nevertheless ramping up the pressure, with Washington and London threatening possible action if Damascus uses its chemical weapons although Moscow has told them not to meddle in Syria's internal affairs.

France said it backed a partial no-fly zone over Syria, where the regime is intensifying its attacks from the air as it battles to stamp out rebel strongholds in Aleppo and pockets of resistance in the capital Damascus.

France and Germany said they are pushing for Security Council action on the humanitarian crisis gripping much of the country, where the UN says over one million are homeless and 2.5 million in need of help.

The UN refugee agency said the flow of refugees fleeing the fighting had jumped, with 202,500 people registering in neighbouring countries.

"A record 2,324 Syrian refugees crossed into Jordan on Thursday night," the kingdom's Information Minister Samih Maaytah said in Amman.

Lebanon was rattled again by new fighting between rival pro-and anti-Assad communities in the northern city of Tripoli, with 14 people killed since Monday, stoking fears of a spillover of the Syria conflict.

Warplanes and artillery again pounded the northern hub of Aleppo and several other areas, a watchdog said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said August is already the deadliest single month of the conflict with more than 4,000 people killed in barely three weeks, and an overall death toll of around 24,500.

In the day's bloodiest single attack, 21 people including 12 women and a child were killed in an air and artillery strike in Mayadin that levelled at least one residential building, Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

Al-Ikhbariya, a government satellite channel, said security forces were "engaged in combat with an armed terrorist group in the Mayadin region, killing dozens of terrorists."

In all 130 people were killed nationwide, according to the Observatory, which has a network of activists, doctors and other sources on the ground but whose information cannot be independently confirmed.

It also reported heavy shelling on several districts of Aleppo, scene of the fiercest fighting since the conflict first entangled the commercial hub a month ago, as well as Daraa, the northwestern province of Idlib and Hama in the centre.

The opposition Syrian National Council warned of a "humanitarian catastrophe" in the central city of Homs, saying it had been under siege for 80 days and was in desperate need of food and medical supplies.

Rebels said they were digging in for a war of attrition in Aleppo, where the regime had warned last month of "the mother of all battles."

"We don't have enough weapons, they (the Syrian army) don't have enough men," said one rebel fighter calling himself Abu Haidar.

Both the government and opposition forces say attacks on Aleppo province are aimed at cutting arms supply routes to the rebels in Syria's battered second city.

Rebels claimed earlier this week to control 60 percent of Aleppo but the regime has dismissed the claims and said Thursday the army had recaptured three Christian neighbourhoods, where residents are largely pro-Assad.

Meanwhile, 50 unidentified bodies were found in the past 24 hours, mainly in Aleppo and Damascus, the Observatory said. Most were found with their hands bound and shot in the head.

Activists said troops stormed and shelled several areas south of Damascus, after two days of ferocious assaults on the southern outskirts that activists said was a renewed bid to crush the insurgency in the capital "once and for all."

The Local Coordination Committees, a local activist network, meanwhile said prominent Syrian film producer Orwa Nyrabia disappeared and was feared arrested, but its report could not be confirmed independently.

American freelance journalist Austin Tice has also been missing for more than a week, his latest employer the Washington Post said.
