The incident occurred in the skies over a military air base in the northern state of Aragua. The pilots were conducting a rehearsal before a scheduled air show. The crew of the second aircraft was able to eject and survive the incident.
The Defence Minister described the actions of Major Rafael Martin, who steered his plane away and died, saving people?s lives, a heroic act.
