MARYVILLE, Mo. ? The Northwest Missouri State Department of Athletics has announced a private gift from Nodaway Valley Bank that will be key in funding upgrades for Bearcat Athletics and include the installation of a new video board at Bearcat Stadium for the 2013-14 academic year.

The contribution is the largest cash gift marked for athletics in Northwest history.

?Nodaway Valley Bank and the Northwest Foundation have teamed up in support of our great institution of higher learning. Whether making an investment in people, programs or stadium scoreboard, Nodaway Valley Bank?s generosity makes a difference to our University,? said University President Dr. John Jasinski.

The donation is a continuation of a strong partnership between Nodaway Valley Bank and the Northwest Foundation in support of the University. The new board will include prominent signage in recognition of the bank?s contribution.

?We have a long-standing relationship with Nodaway Valley Bank. The impact of their support has advanced our athletic department and this institution. We are thrilled that they are continuing their support of our programs with this most recent contribution. It is an improvement that will impact every game and event we host at Bearcat Stadium,? said Northwest Director of Athletics Wren Baker.

The Northwest Department of Athletics is continuing the bid process and hopes to have construction completed for the 2013 football home opener. Preliminary plans for the new board call for increasing the video display by five times the size of the current video display. The project will also include an updated state-of-the-art sound system for Bearcat Stadium.

?This will be an exciting addition to Bearcat game days,? Head Football Coach Adam Dorrel said. ?Not only will it help increase an already impressive home field advantage, but add to the fan experience and benefit other programs and the University as well.?

Since the original video board was installed in 2003, the Bearcat football team has accumulated some impressive stats. Coming into Saturday?s game, the Bearcats are 57-4 at home and carry a 14-game winning streak at Bearcat Stadium.

Bearcat Stadium is also the home to the Northwest track and field teams which host two events each spring and one high school meet that features schools from throughout the region. In addition, the stadium is the setting for multiple campus and community events, including summer camps, intramural competitions, student activities, the Northwest Missouri Special Olympics Spring Games and Relay for Life.
