?Details of Project Jackson will be announced Wednesday morning at the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 AM in the North Augusta Community Center and is open to the public. The cost to attend the breakfast is $15.

Sources tell NBC 26 the project includes plans for a baseball stadium, hotel, park, townhomes and retail areas.

Monday night the North Augusta City Council approved the latest riverfront development plans for the property adjacent to the current Hammonds Ferry development. The plan approved Monday is not Project Jackson. North Augusta Mayor Lark Jones says the plan that has been approved would be dissolved if the city decides to move forward with Project Jackson. The plan approved Monday night involves two 4,000 square foot buildings, another 15,000 square foot building, an entranceway into the public park and other small structures. According to sources some of the elements included in the approved plan are also included integrated into the plans for Project Jackson. According to Jones the Project Jackson proposal is a development of much larger scale.

After the details of Project Jackson are released to the public, Jones says the city will begin to look at several factors, ?Once that is unveiled the city will go through the complete process of determining is it feasible from a financial standpoint? Is it feasible from a quality of life standpoint? Do we want this? Is this what we want our riverfront to look like? Do we want these things in North Augusta?? Jones went on to add, ?It will be a long exhausting process. I think when a lot of the residents saw that it was final reading on the development agreement, they thought this was it. That wasn?t the case at all.?

During Monday?s meeting some North Augusta residents in attendance voiced their concerns over the possibility of a stadium being included in any future plans for riverfront development. Many of the residents said they do approve of the plan approved Monday night.

When asked how he believes the majority of residents will receive Project Jackson the mayor responded, ?If I felt the vast majority of people were against it I wouldn?t even let it get to this point. Our job as the mayor and council is to receive all proposals and if we think they?re good for the City of North Augusta we let them move on. We?re just at the initial onset at this point.?

Jones says ultimately the decision on whether or not Project Jackson becomes a reality will be up to the residents of the city, but he believes they will be impressed with the proposal. ?If this community fully embraces this, then it will be moved forward. If the community whole-heartedly is against it, then that would certainly change our thought process. But from what I have seen, I think the vast majority of citizens of North Augusta, their first reaction is going to be, wow,? said Jones.

There will be two meetings Wednesday night after the plans for Project Jackson are revealed. The meetings are primarily for residents in the adjacent areas where Project Jackson would be developed. Jones says developers will be there to answer questions and address concerns from residents. The meetings will be at 6 P.M. and 8 P.M. on the third floor of the North Augusta Municipal Center at 100 Georgia Avenue in North Augusta.

Mayor Jones did not specifically address any statements from residents Monday night referencing a ballpark or stadium. Jones did say at the meeting that Project Jackson would involve additional outside developers not involved with the current approved plan.

Ballpark Digest has reported that Ripken Baseball is in the process of selling the Augusta GreenJackets to an investment group for $7.5 million. Ripken Baseball had been trying to work a deal with the city of Augusta for a new stadium for the team at several sites along the Savannah River. The Ripken Baseball Group acquired the Augusta GreenJackets, a Class-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, in 2005 from the HWS Baseball Group for an undisclosed amount.
