Rivalry between Pacquiao and Marquez is just professional and nothing else ? Boxing News
Mexican ring legend Juan Manuel Marquez has clarified that his rivalry with Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao is just professional and nothing else. In an interview with the LA Times, Marquez spoke about his upcoming fight against Manny Pacquiao. He shed light on his preparation, previous fights with Pacquiao and on retirement.
While most boxing analysts believe Marquez would retire if he faces yet another loss at the hands of Manny Pacquiao, the Mexican is planning otherwise. According to Marquez, he still has a lot of boxing left in him and so he is not planning to retire. He wants to continue with his reign of being one of the best welterweight fighters, even if he faces defeat against Pacquiao.
?We're both professionals. I don't think there's any hate in there because of how the fights have turned out,? said Marquez when asked if he has anything personal against Pacquiao.
?There's a rivalry, but it's professional. He thinks he's won the three fights. I don't think he's won one. So that's why there's a fourth fight,? he added.
Marquez believes Pacquiao is more inclined towards getting decision wins as he is a popular guy and judges favour him.
?Yes, the stuff he does outside the ring. He's popular, a guy with great skills who sells a lot of tickets and is good for the sport. He's like a mythical figure who has to get a decision,? he said.
Marquez will fight Pacquiao on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It will be the fourth time both fighters will meet in the ring to finally settle the epic rivalry. Pacquiao has already won two fights out of three, while the first one ended up in a tie.
Since Marquez believes Pacquiao is favoured by the judges, he is looking forward to knock out Pacquiao as soon as possible in the ring. However, Marquez is not the only one who is looking for a knockout, even Pacquiao is planning the same. In his recent interview, even Pacquiao stated that he wants to knockout Marquez in order to settle it once and for all.
